OUR PARISH HISTORY

The church was well established by the time this wedding took place in August 1917.
Sacred Heart Parish was established in 1912.  By 1914, the foundation stone for a church was laid on 4.5 acres of land, generously donated by Dean Andrew Horan of St Mary's Parish Ipswich.  When, in 1914, the banks foreclosed n loans promised for the construction of the Church (World War I had been declared) four parishioners, Messrs Lebler, Costello, Hartfield and Doyle, mortgaged their homes so that sufficient funds were available for the work to continue.  The building, pictured above, was blessed and opened on 9th May 1915 by Archbishop Duhig.
